If you’re seeking a culinary experience that marries breathtaking views with innovative cuisine, the Departure Restaurant & Lounge in downtown Portland should be at the top of your list. Located on the 15th floor at 525 SW Morrison St, this unique dining destination offers a sumptuous fusion of Asian flavors within a stunning, modern architectural space that captures the essence of Portland’s skyline.

Departure is not just a restaurant; it’s an experience that engages all your senses. The moment you step in, you’re greeted by an inviting atmosphere that feels both vibrant and sophisticated. The space is designed to enhance your dining experience, offering both indoor and outdoor seating options. Imagine savoring your meal while looking out over the city, with the picturesque backdrop of a stunning sunset painting the sky in hues of orange and pink—a sight that many guests have raved about. One visitor, Joseph Reutter, beautifully encapsulated this saying, “the vibe was on point, cocktails were fun and inventive, and the sunset was the best I've seen in town thus far.”

The menu at Departure is a thrilling journey through contemporary Asian dishes, primarily focusing on sushi and Asian fusion offerings. Start your meal off with the NW Oysters paired with rhubarb shaved ice and a touch of chili crisp for a refreshing kick. Or indulge in the exquisite Tuna Sashimi delicately served with yuzu kosho ponzu and kiwi—each bite is a burst of flavor that keeps you coming back for more. The Hamachi Uramaki and the Vegetable Futomaki demonstrate the kitchen's commitment to fresh, quality ingredients, creating rolls that are as beautiful as they are delicious.

For those with a craving for something crispy and savory, the Departure Wings are a must-try—coated with a sweet chili herb sauce that will tantalize your taste buds. The Duck Fat Potatoes and Eggplant are equally compelling options that only hint at the depth of flavor that Departure’s chefs skillfully capture.

While the food is undeniably impressive, what truly elevates the experience is the attentive and warm service that makes every guest feel special. As noted by Andres Banasco, “the team went above and beyond to deliver the best dining experience I’ve ever had.” It’s clear that the staff at Departure is dedicated to ensuring that you have not just a meal, but a memorable event.

Departure is more than just a dining establishment; it’s a feast for the senses and an invitation to indulge in extraordinary flavors, stunning views, and delightful company. Whether you're planning a romantic evening or celebrating a special occasion—this dynamic restaurant promises a fantastic culinary adventure that leaves you yearning for more. So, go on, treat yourself to a night at Departure, where every detail is curated to perfection!

Met chef Dan randomly at a lunch spot and my girlfriend and I stopped by for a sunset cocktail on his recommendation. Stayed around for a little grub and so glad we did. The Brussels were killer and the sushi roll was so fresh! The vibe was on point, cocktails were fun and inventive, and the sunset was the best I've seen in town thus far. Highly recommend this place! Dan's the man! Thanks for pointing us here!

Restaurant was amazing. Staff was extremely nice. The views were perfect. The experience was like no other. The birthday girl cried from how happy she felt. The team went above and beyond to deliver the best dining experience I’ve ever had. Did I mention the views were breathtaking? Food was DELICIOUS.

Lovely Spot in Downtown Portland, Great Atmosphere and Quality Food This restaurant in downtown Portland has such a beautiful setting and view. The space is charming, there’s a smaller outdoor area currently open, and we were told a larger section will open in a few weeks when the weather improves. We ordered a lot of food, and everything was high quality and delicious. The service was excellent, staff were attentive, friendly, and constantly checking in. They walked by often to make sure we had what we needed, cleared our small table regularly, and even asked if the heater was keeping us warm enough. It really made us feel cared for. The atmosphere was so lovely that we ended up staying for a few hours and we didn’t want to leave! But of course, it’s only fair to make room for others to enjoy the evening too. Prices are pretty standard for a nice place in Portland not cheap, but fair for the quality you get. I’d definitely recommend this restaurant for a nice evening out, whether you’re with friends or on a date with someone special.

This restaurant located on the 15th floor is a scenic location with sweeping views of Portland city and sky line. We enjoyed every dish we ordered - the Brussels sprouts were soft and yet crispy, the garlic fried rice was tasty, the chicken wings were flavorful, the grilled octopus was slightly chewy but in a good “golden sauce” and avocado rolls were fresh. Drinks were well-made. There appeared to be some confusion with servers with multiple different people showing up and asking similar questions though overall the service was fine.

Cool vibe. It has a space-age feel to it with the architecture angles. Cocktails were great. We tried a bunch of apps and entrées and it was pretty good, but the halibut was dry. Can't beat the views though. Service was great as well.

Amazing food and drinks. A great upscale place for a fancy dinner or date night. Love that it feels like you’re in a plane with the interior design and decor. Tables were a little too close together for my liking and our waiter only checked on us a few times, and would’ve liked more frequent check ins so we didn’t have to wait as long for drinks. Cannot complain about the food at all, everything was good!! And the cocktails were some of the best. Try the duck fat old fashioned!

Great views. There are 3 different rooms and if you are coming for sunset be sure to ask for the room with food service and views. I wasn't aware and was seated in the main restaurant facing the river and was able to see mountains but had to move to another location to watch the sunset. Food was okay for the price. Crab mazeman was delicious. The ones I tried on the crispy menu (pork belly and tots) were mid. Very crunchy, was a chore to eat and did not have much flavor. The Brussels sprouts from the wok were quite soggy. The espresso martini was very delicious and highly recommend.
